Pure enantiomers account for more than 40% of the global turnover of the drug market. Among the first 10 blockbusters, 9 molecules are enantiomerically pure. There are more than 400 candidates to pre-clinical trials a year, and more than 4000 potentials candidates ! Interest does not only involve toxicity or efficiency matters, but also intellectual property. However, access to pure enantiomers is not straightforward.
Crystallization is a direct separation technique. It plays a role in purification and allows to obtain the enantiomer in a solid state. Moreover, it is a cost-effective technique as it uses low amounts of solvents when compared to chromatography, and it enables recycling the mother liquors by reintroducing them into the process. Crystallization bears a high added-value to affordable starting materials.
Holodiag helps you in controlling phase equilibria by establishing their relationships (phase diagrams), which allows to develop optimised processes and to make the most of it (i.e. harvest the highest amount of pure enantiomer that is conceivable to get). We can then transfer the process up to the scale of the kilo-lab.
We also carry out diagnosis and optimization of existing processes, which enables to save on development costs: we can determine the maximum purity / maximum yield with the respect to your current process in order to check whether it can be optimised.
Activity tracking and reporting
Scheduled reporting and steering committees allow you a real-time monitoring of the studies. Besides, Holodiag delivers a high quality report which is a tool in the decision making process. This report highlights the key points together with advices for further development steps.
